The RPC
(Recreational Pilot Certificate)

The RPC is an Australian recognised certificate that allows pilots to fly in command of an aircraft under 600kg maximum take off weight (MTOW) that is registered with RAAus (Recreational Aviation Australia).

While the certificate offers the opportuinity to fly various categories of light aircraft, such as Weight Shift or Powered Parachutes, Light Aircraft Academy focuses on 3-axis types (conventional aircraft).

The RPC allows a pilot to fly within 25nm of the original point of departure. While this is a perfect starting point, a Cross-Country endorsement is required to fly anywhere in Australia (outside controlled airspace).

Other endorsements available include Passenger Carrying, Formation flying, In-flight Adjustable Propeller and Retractable Undercarriage endorsement.

The minimum flying hours required to obtain an RPC are 20 hours dual flight instruction plus 5 hours solo, while the cross country endorsement requires 12 hours of flight instruction (including 2 hours of solo).

Of course there is classroom theory (all included in our packages), some home study and practical ground-based instruction involved in learning to fly (also included)! But don’t worry, we will guide you through this process and ensure that you achieve all the required in-flight and classroom-based competency requirements.

And importantly, the RPC qualification allows you to easily transition to a full CASA license (RPL, PPL and CPL) cheaply and seamlessly!
